Internet: A Blessing or a Curse?

Sifting through the history of the 20th century, I"m fascinated by a treasure trove of beneficial and innovative breakthroughs in science and technology. In the past century, numerous creatire inventions have been brought to us, leading to desirable transformations and speeding up the evolution of human civilization. The diverse technological developments improve the productivity and entitle us to a more favorable life. And among all those ingenious designs, the advent of the Internet, I suppose, has the most profound significance to us mankind.

Since the very date the Internet came into being, it has changed our life and work dramatically. The World Wide Web reveals a magical and intriguing new world to everyone woven up into the net. The various websites provide a wealth of information and data for the "netizens". With their assistance, we needn"t bother to plunge into multitudes of books in the library, searching for only one or two items. The powerful search engines, such as Google, Yahoo, and Sina function as handy tools for us to find all we need, with just a few clicks. The variety of webpages supply updated news and informative knowledge, enabling us to keep abreast with the times. The BBS, short for the Bulletin Board Service as a helpful medium for people to exchange available information. To us students on campus, the BBS means convenient connection with all our peers and easy access to useful messages. So in this sense, the Internet has greatly enriched our life and promoted mutual understanding between individuals. Moreover, the Internet offers us instant communication with our friends and family no matter how far we are from each other. The emails, OICQ,e-cards, net meetings and the emerging SMS on the web all prove to be of sufficient help with this function. What"s more, the internet begins to playa vitally important role in business and trade. The brand new e commerce such as B2B and B2C make it possible for the corporations to deal with their operations effectively and efficiently. And to the IPOs (Initial Operation Offering), the net acts as an attractive plat form for the road show.

However, does the Internet only mean blessing to the human beings? Definitely not. The fact is that plenty of negative influences have been caused by the net. The notorious hackers attack the websites of government and institutions rampantly, damaging their systems and interrupting the operations. In cyberspace, criminals easily commit crime and escape. And the computer viruses spread even faster through emails, causing lots of computer failures.

Thus it"s apparent that the Internet is a blend of blessing and curse. But despite its disadvantages and shortcomings, I"m still in strong favor of the Internet and I"d prefer to glorify its beneficial outcomes. Adventurous as it may appear to be, it"s undoubtedly one of the mellow fruits of human wisdom, right?

一方面是網路上“a wealth Of information, witha few clicks"’,另一方面是"plunge into the library for hours, searching only one Or two items",擁有網路的輕松和傳統方式的麻煩形成比照。
